MASSAGE AND TRIGGERPOINT-THERAPY
The effects of massage are mainly focused on increasing the blood flow to the muscles of the entire body. Massage and triggerpoint-therapy reduce muscle spasms, increase flexibility and freedom of movement of the horse, support the lymphatic flow and the transport of waste products out of the muscle and the transport of nutrients to the muscle. Hence the risk of injury and tissue damage is reduced.
Different techniques such as Effleurage (stroaking), Petrissage (kneeding), Vibration, Friction, Compression, and Triggerpoint-techniques are applied. The horse visibly relaxes during this kind of treatment, signs of relaxations can be chewing, jawning, lowering the head, relaxing one hind leg etc.
