PRE- & POST EVENT THERAPY
Treating a horse
before a tournament, show or race has a particular advantage due to the stimulated increased blood flow to the muscles. The horses muscles are relaxed, softened and the flexibility of the horse maximised. This increases the horse’s performance potential and reduces the risk of injury.
Offering therapy to the horse after its athletic performance has further advantages. It relaxes the muscles, it helps remove the built up lactate out of the muscle and increases the transport of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles due to the increased pumping activity. Hence post-event therapy reduces the effects of fatigue and blood lactate accumulation. The horses tend to be more energetic on the following day as well, due to the fact that the lactate has been efficiently removed from the muscle.
